Counting
A counting game for your community — five modes, per-channel rules, streaks and a leaderboard.
Members count together in a channel you pick: one number per message, in the right order. A wrong number — or counting twice in a row — ends the run and the game starts over. It takes a team, and it makes a very good reason to open the server every day.
Start with plain counting up, or give each channel its own game: count down, answer math questions, continue a sequence, or follow a rule that changes every few numbers.
Alpha — new, not yet battle-tested.
Counting costs no plugin slot: switching it on doesn't use one of your free plugins.
Set it up
- Enable Counting in the Plugin Market.
- Open the Counting page and add a counting channel. You can add up to five.
- Pick a mode for each channel (or leave it on Classic), then save.
- Optional: the rules, a time limit, a milestone cheer, role rewards and your own failure message (below).
Create the channel yourself first (a plain text channel named #counting works well) and give CloudMod View Channel, Send Messages, Add Reactions and Read Message History there.
How it plays
- A message counts only if it is nothing but a number:
12. No text, no leading zero, no math in the message. Everything else in the channel is just chat and gets ignored. Bots and webhooks never count. - CloudMod reacts with ✅ to a right number and ❌ to a wrong one.
- By default the same member can't count twice in a row, so someone else has to take the next number.
- A mistake ends the run: CloudMod says who ended it and where, and a new run begins. A wrong number before the first right one only gets a ❌ — there was no run to end.
- A run is also over when its goal is reached (Reverse reaching
0, a Sequence passing the highest number CloudMod accepts). That is a win, not a mistake: CloudMod congratulates the member who finished it.
Each channel keeps its own number and its own record (the longest run).
The five modes
Every channel has its own mode. You pick it on the Counting page; a channel without a choice plays Classic.
| Mode | What members do | Start number |
|---|---|---|
| Classic | Count up: start, start + 1, start + 2 … | 0 – 1,000,000,000 (default 1) |
| Reverse | Count down to 0. Writing the 0 finishes the run | 10 – 1,000,000 (default 100) |
| Math | CloudMod asks a question; the answer is the number | not used |
| Sequence | Continue a pattern | 1 – 1,000,000 (default 1) |
| Chaos | Count up or down by a step that changes every five numbers | 10 – 1,000,000 (default 100) |
Math. CloudMod posts a question like 17 + 8 and the answer is the next number. A right answer brings the next question. Choose a difficulty:
- Easy — adding and subtracting up to 20
- Normal — numbers up to 100, plus times tables up to 10 × 10
- Hard — numbers up to 1000, plus multiplications up to 20 × 20
Answers are never negative and never 0. While a question is open, CloudMod doesn't give away the answer: /counting status shows only the question, and if the game carries on after a mistake, the failure message shows ? instead of the answer. When a wrong answer ends a run, the message says what the answer was.
Sequence. Pick arithmetic (add a step from 1 to 1000 each time) or geometric (multiply by a factor from 2 to 10). The first number is the start number. /counting status shows the rule. A geometric sequence grows fast, so it is finished after a few dozen numbers.
Chaos. The rule changes every five numbers — up by 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10, or down by 1, 2 or 3 — and CloudMod announces every new rule. The numbers never go below 0 or above the highest number CloudMod accepts.
Settings for each channel
On the Counting page every channel has its own card. Each card shows what applies to that channel; a setting you leave alone follows the default.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Mode | See above |
| Start number | The first number of every run (not used by Math) |
| Difficulty (Math) | Easy, Normal or Hard |
| Pattern, step, factor (Sequence) | Arithmetic or geometric, and how much it adds or multiplies |
| Time limit | Off, or from 10 seconds up to 7 days without a right number |
| Counting twice in a row | Follow the default, allow it or forbid it — for this channel only |
| After a mistake | Follow the default, start over or keep going — for this channel only |
Changing the mode, the start number, the Math difficulty or the Sequence rule ends the running run — without a penalty for anyone. CloudMod says so in the channel (the old run's length is part of the message) and the new run begins with the next number. The card warns you before you save. Everything else (time limit, the two rules, texts) doesn't end the run; a shorter time limit applies from the next right number on.
Time limit
With a time limit, a run ends if nobody counts a right number in time. CloudMod announces it once and nobody gets an error. Wrong numbers don't extend the time. A restart of CloudMod counts as activity, so the time starts fresh afterwards and nobody loses a run because of an update.
Rules for all channels
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Start over after a mistake | on | Off: the run stays where it was and the game carries on |
| Allow counting twice in a row | off | On: the same member may write two numbers in a row |
| React to every number | on | ✅ / ❌ on each number |
| Announce when a run ends | on | A short message naming who ended it and at which number |
| Cheer at milestones | every 100 | CloudMod celebrates round numbers (every 10, 50, 100, 250, 500 or 1000 — or off) |
| Failure message | CloudMod's text | Your own wording, up to 300 characters |
The first two are the defaults for every channel; a channel's own card can override them.
Your own failure message replaces the text CloudMod posts when a run ends. These placeholders are filled in: {user} (the member), {number} (what they wrote), {expected} (what was expected), {previous} (the last right number) and {next} (where the next run starts; in Math channels, the next question). Anything else in curly braces stays as written. In Math channels {expected} shows ? as long as the question stays open. Leave the field empty for the standard text.
Streaks, records and stats
- Successful — numbers a member counted right.
- Errors — runs a member ended with a mistake.
- Highest count — the furthest position a member reached in one chain. In Classic from
1it is the number itself; in other modes it is the position, so modes can be compared. - Streak — right numbers in a row since the member's own last mistake. Someone else's mistake doesn't break it. Best streak is the longest one.
- Sessions — how many runs a member took part in.
A word of warning about words: when a run ends, CloudMod's message in the channel says "the streak ended at 42" — that is the run. In the stats, a streak is always one member's own.
Role rewards
Give a role to the members who count right the most. Pick a number of correct counts and a role, for example 100 → Counter. The role is given once, at exactly that number, and CloudMod says so in the channel. If you take the role away later, it doesn't come back by itself.
You can add up to five rewards. CloudMod needs Manage Roles, and its own role must sit above the reward role in your server's role list — otherwise Discord refuses.
Commands
/counting status
/counting top
/counting stats user:@Member
/counting set value:100 channel:#counting — admin
/counting forget user:@Member — admin
/counting statusshows each counting channel's current number, the next number and the record — and the rule or question of the moment in Math, Sequence and Chaos channels./counting topshows the ten best counters on this server, ranked by highest count./counting statsshows a member's totals, highest count, streaks, sessions and rank. Leaveuserout to see your own./counting setsets the number a channel stands at (0starts over). Use it if a number went wrong. In Classic and Reverse it accepts any number inside the mode's range; in the other modes only0works. The record is kept. Leavechannelout if the server has exactly one counting channel./counting forgetdeletes one member's counting stats.- "Admin" means Manage Server or CloudMod admin rights.
Good to know
- Editing or deleting a number is not tracked. If someone deletes their number after counting, the game goes on with the number that was counted. Ask your moderators to keep an eye on it, or use
/counting setto put the number right. - Numbers written while CloudMod was offline (an update, a restart) are picked up when it is back — up to the last 200 messages in the channel — so a restart doesn't turn the next number into a mistake.
- A question or rule that CloudMod couldn't post (a Discord hiccup) is posted again: CloudMod tries a few more times in the following minutes.
- Messages of the same moment are handled in the order Discord delivered them, so two members who answer within a fraction of a second don't swap places.
- On the dashboard you pick counting channels from your main server. The leaderboard and the
/countingcommands work per server. - Counting has its own leaderboard and gives no XP of its own. If you also use Leveling, numbers in the counting channel earn XP like any other message — add the channel to Leveling's No-XP channels if you don't want that.
Privacy
CloudMod reads the message to see if it is the next number and then forgets it — the text of a message is never stored. Stored per counting channel: the current number and the state of the run (length, record, the time of the last right number, the ID of the last counted message and of the member who counted last, and — for Math and Chaos — the seed that picks the next question or rule). Stored per member and server: numbers counted right, runs ended, highest count, streaks and sessions. While a run is going, CloudMod also remembers who took part so it can count sessions; that note is deleted when the run ends. See the privacy policy, section 7.
Switching the plugin off deletes all of it immediately, for everyone. There's no grace period and no undo — turning it back on starts at the beginning. /counting forget removes a single member.
Requirements: Send Messages, Add Reactions, Read Message History, and Manage Roles if you use role rewards.
