Suggestions
A suggestion box with voting, a submit button and optional team review.
Three ways to collect ideas — mix them as you like.
| Mode | How it works |
|---|---|
| Command | members run /suggest and the bot posts their idea as an embed with 👍/👎 voting |
| Voting board | the bot auto-reacts 👍/👎 to every post in the suggestions channel |
| Submit button | a short message at the bottom of the channel with a Submit a suggestion button; members write their idea in a window and the bot posts it |
On top of any of them you can switch on a team review: ideas wait in a private channel until a moderator publishes them.
Beta — tested, but still young.
Set it up
- Enable Suggestions in the Plugin Market.
- On the Suggestions page, pick the Suggestions channel.
- Auto-react to posts is on by default. Turn it off if the bot should only react to
/suggestposts. - Optional: change the Upvote emoji and Downvote emoji. Leave them empty for 👍/👎. Custom server emojis work too. The emojis apply to both modes.
The submit button
Turn on Show a “Submit a suggestion” message on the Suggestions page. The bot posts a short message with a button in the suggestions channel and keeps it at the bottom: after new posts, it moves below them again (after a few quiet seconds, so a busy channel isn't spammed). Members click the button, type their idea in a window, and the bot posts it like a /suggest suggestion. Nobody needs to know a command.
- Leave the text empty for the default, or write your own (up to 1,000 characters).
- The same person can send one suggestion every 30 seconds, so a public button can't be used to flood the channel.
- Turn the switch off and the message disappears again.
Team review
Turn on Review suggestions before they go public and pick a Team review channel that only your team can see. It has to be a different channel than the suggestions channel.
New suggestions (from /suggest or the button) then land in the review channel with Approve & publish and Reject:
- Approve & publish posts the idea in the suggestions channel for everyone to vote on, with the usual Approve/Deny buttons for the final decision.
- Reject opens a window for an optional reason. The idea is never posted, and the author gets a direct message (with your reason, if you wrote one — if their DMs are closed, nothing is sent).
- Two moderators clicking at once decide only once; the second one is told it was already decided.
- If the bot can't post in the suggestions channel, the idea stays in the review channel and you can try again.
Switch the review off and new suggestions go public right away again. Ideas that are still waiting stay in the review channel.
Staff actions
Each /suggest post carries Approve and Deny buttons. Plain messages in a voting board only get the vote reactions.
Only members with Timeout Members, Kick Members, Ban Members or Manage Server can press them. Pressing one updates the embed: the buttons disappear and it shows who approved or denied it. The decision stays visible next to the idea, so nobody has to ask what happened to it.
Good to know
- A suggestion can be up to 2,000 characters.
- Suggestion text is stored so the embed can be updated later. Keep that in mind if your server has rules about what members may post.
- The buttons survive restarts.
- Auto-react touches every message in that channel, so use a dedicated one.
Requirements: Send Messages, Embed Links, Add Reactions and Read Message History in the suggestions channel; Send Messages and Embed Links in the review channel. The submit button also needs Read Message History to find and replace its own message.
