How a subscription finds its network

One subscription covers one network: how CloudMod picks which one, how to move it, and what happens when a plan drops.

A CloudMod plan belongs to one network. It doesn't belong to you, to a single Discord server or to a group of networks: every network has its own plan, and one subscription covers one network. This page explains how a subscription ends up on a network, how to choose a different one, and what happens when a plan goes away.

Quick answers

QuestionAnswer
I have Link and Network. Which one counts? Each subscription covers one network. With two networks, each carries one. With one network, the better subscription counts and the other has no effect. See Two subscriptions.
Can I move a subscription to another network?Yes, between networks you own. See Move a subscription.
Can I give my subscription to someone else? No. See Give it to someone else.
Where do I cancel? In Discord, not in CloudMod.
What happens to my setup when the plan drops?Nothing is deleted. What no longer fits is paused. See When a plan drops.

Where you buy and cancel

Link and Network are monthly subscriptions that you buy in Discord. Discord is the seller: it handles payment, cancelling and refunds, so none of that happens inside CloudMod. To change or cancel a subscription, open Discord's User Settings and go to Billing. The Manage in Discord button on a network's Plan & billing card takes you to CloudMod's page in Discord's store.

A subscription belongs to the Discord account that bought it, not to a network. Which network it covers is decided by CloudMod, as described below.

PlanHow a network gets it
NodeThe default. Free, no subscription needed.
Link, NetworkA subscription in Discord.
GridNot for sale. The CloudMod team grants it after a conversation.

What each plan includes and costs is on the pricing page; the limits per plan are also in What is a project?.

Which network gets a subscription

CloudMod runs the assignment when you buy a subscription, when one ends, when you create or delete a network, and when the bot restarts. It looks at all your subscriptions and all the networks you own. Networks where you are only an admin don't count. The rules, in order:

  1. The best subscription goes first. Network before Link.
  2. A network that already carries the subscription keeps it. That is why a subscription you moved yourself stays where you put it.
  3. Otherwise it goes to the first network that a better subscription hasn't taken. A network that is on a paid plan but carries no subscription comes first (for example after the CloudMod team withdrew a granted plan). After that, your oldest network. If that network carried a lower subscription, the lower one moves on to the next network.
  4. A network on a plan granted by the CloudMod team only takes a subscription that is a higher plan than the granted one. See Plans granted by the CloudMod team.
  5. A network without a subscription runs on Node, unless the team granted it a plan.

Bought a subscription before you had a network? Create your first network in the dashboard. CloudMod checks again right after and attaches the subscription. Deleting a network that carried a subscription works the same way: the subscription moves to another network of yours, if you have one.

To see which network runs on which plan, open your account page in the dashboard: it lists your networks with the plan each one runs on. A network's own Plan & billing card, on its Project settings page, shows the details.

Two subscriptions

You ownYou pay forWhat happens
2 networks2 subscriptionsEach network carries one. By the rules above the better subscription goes to your oldest network, unless a network already carries it. Use Move a subscription to change that.
1 network2 subscriptionsThe better one counts. The other one is paid but has no effect, and it keeps being billed until you cancel it in Discord. If the subscription you just bought is the one without effect, CloudMod tells you by DM (if your DMs are open). After an upgrade you get no message about the lower one, so cancel it in Discord yourself.
2 networks1 subscriptionOne network carries it: the oldest, or the one you moved it to. The other runs on Node.

Example. You own two networks and Link runs on the older one. Then you buy Network. Network lands on the older network and Link moves to your other one. If you want it the other way round, move it yourself.

Move a subscription

You can move a subscription between networks you own, from the dashboard:

  1. Open the network that should receive the subscription and go to Project settings.
  2. On its Plan & billing card, under Which network is this subscription for?, pick a network in Take the subscription from and click Move it here.

What to know:

  • Only the owner of the networks can do this. A project admin can't.
  • The list only shows networks you own that currently carry a subscription. If you don't have one, the block isn't there.
  • If the receiving network already carries a subscription, the two swap, so nobody loses a plan.
  • If it doesn't, the subscription moves and the network it came from drops to Node. Whatever Node doesn't cover there is paused, see When a plan drops.
  • A network on a plan granted by the CloudMod team doesn't show the block and isn't offered as a source.
  • Your choice sticks. A network that carries a subscription keeps it in every later assignment.

Give it to someone else

You can't hand a subscription to another person. CloudMod only assigns a subscription to networks owned by the Discord account that bought it, and moving one is limited to your own networks.

What works instead:

  • The other person subscribes with their own Discord account for their own network.
  • If they should run your network from now on, they take it over and subscribe themselves. You cancel yours in Discord.

Take over a network

The Discord owner of the main server can take a network over, if they aren't its owner in CloudMod yet: a Take over project button appears in the network's project settings. The previous owner stays on as an admin. If a subscription is attached to the network, the dashboard warns you before you confirm: the subscription belongs to the person who attached it and stays with them, so the network returns to the free Node plan until you attach your own. Ownership can't be handed over from the current owner's side. A new Discord owner counts only after they have held the server for 24 hours without interruption, so handing a server back and forth changes nothing; if you need it sooner (for example after selling the server), contact support.

What happens to the plan:

  • The subscription stays with the person who bought it. A network that ran on it drops to Node, or back to its granted plan if the CloudMod team had granted it one. Whatever the lower plan doesn't cover is paused, see When a plan drops.
  • The new owner subscribes with their own account. If they already have a subscription that isn't in use, CloudMod attaches it to the network they took over.
  • The previous owner's subscription moves to another network of theirs, if they have one. Otherwise it has no network, and they can cancel it in Discord.
  • The Branding Pack is bought for one network and belongs to it, so it moves with the network to its new owner.

Plans granted by the CloudMod team

Some networks run on a plan the CloudMod team granted instead of a subscription. The dashboard marks them Granted by CloudMod, and nothing is charged. Grid is always granted this way.

Such a network can't carry a subscription, with one exception: a subscription for a higher plan takes it over. The network then counts as paid, and when that subscription ends or is moved away it returns to the granted plan. A subscription for the same or a lower plan has no effect there.

When a plan drops

A plan drops when a cancelled subscription reaches the end of its paid period, when a subscription is refunded, when you move a subscription away, when a network is taken over, or when the CloudMod team ends a granted plan. After you cancel, the plan stays until the end of the period you paid for, and the card shows an Ends on date.

Nothing is deleted. CloudMod pauses what the new plan doesn't cover and keeps every setting:

WhatWhat gets pausedHow to bring it back
PluginsPlugins the new plan doesn't include, then the most recently switched-on ones until you're within the plugin allowance.Switch them on again in the Plugin Market.
Sub-serversThe newest ones over the limit, never the main server. Role and nickname sync stops there, bans still apply.Resume sync on the Sub-Servers page.
Role rulesThe newest rules over the limit.Switch them on again on the Role Rules page.
Timed rolesThe newest roles over the limit. Members keep them, they just won't expire.Grant the role again with /temprole add.
Open eventsThe newest open events over the limit. Sign-ups are closed.Resume the event with /event resume.

CloudMod tells the owner what was paused: by DM, or in the network's log channel if DMs are closed. An upgrade doesn't switch anything back on by itself. You do that, and what you switch on counts against the new limits again. A Branding Pack purchase is never affected by a plan change.
